Rich's grandmother passed away yesterday at 93 years young. It's one of those things that is kind of hard to comprehend living over 1000 miles away from her. We have the Christmas card that she just sent posted on our refrigerator door. There is a package sitting under our tree from her labeled, "Do not open until Christmas." It will be sweet to open that from her on Christmas morning as we remember her legacy. She was always so good at remembering each one of us on our birthdays, anniversaries and at Christmas. Most people hope to remember their name at 93 years of age, much less the birthdays of all 11 of their great grandchildren!
But the hard part as we remember her life is not knowing if she is rejoicing with Jesus in heaven right now. It's been 2 years since we last saw her and the last time Rich and I had a chance to sit with her and talk to her about Jesus. She was clear at that time that she believed in God, but had not made Jesus the Lord and Savior of her life.
James 2:19 -19You believe that there is one God. Good! Even the demons believe that—and shudder.
Romans 10:9-13 - 9That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. 11As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame." 12For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, 13for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."
We have prayed fervently in these past 2 years for her to surrender to Jesus, but don't know that she ever did. Someday we will know. But for now, we just hope.
