What a beautiful day yesterday was as we celebrated our freedom in America. As a family we prayed many times together thanking God for our freedom, not only in America, but also in Christ. We spent a lazy morning at the neighborhood pool (well, it was lazy for Rich and I anyway - Ellen and Caleb had swim team practice and worked rather hard. Okay, Rich and I weren't really lazy. We did have a 4 year old, almost 2 year old and a 1 month old to look after.) We then came home and geared up for our family celebration while Rich visited with his dad who is still in ICU down at MUSC. His dad was in good spirits and is showing signs of improvement. We then enjoyed typical American fare for dinner - hot dogs, corn on the cob, watermelon, red white and blue jello - yum -yum - on the back porch. Then it was time for the much anticipated fireworks! The boys could hardly contain themselves. We did our own sparklers and a few low budget fireworks off of the dock, then we sat back and oohed and aahed at the amazing show that our neighbors all around us put on. For a good hour, the sky was lit up everywhere with some really amazing fireworks. It was absolutely spectacular! Every year it gets better and better. We concluded the night with a big bowl of ice cream (complete with chocolate syrup and whipped cream) on the porch as the fireworks continued. Finally, we all dropped into bed quite late. We left the kids shades open in their rooms so they could drift off watching the dazzling light displays. What a great memory for all of us. I love summer!
