Sun, Science and Schoolboys

One day a week we co-op our study of science with some dear friends of ours and this year I have had the absolute privilege and joy of teaching these 3 boys science.

And what fun we have! While the little ones nap in the afternoon, we have built a solar system, designed 1, 2 and even 7 stage rocket systems (NASA should be calling them soon), made our own supernovas, comets and black holes and even scheduled a sleepover to study the stars through the lens of the telescope.

Most recently they experimented with different rocket fuel formulas (trusty ol' baking soda and vinegar) to find the right combination to shoot this rocket as high as it would go. (A little chemistry and physics to go along with our study of rockets and space, thank you.)

While they have been busy studying scientific principles, I have had fun studying boys. They still intrigue me and make me laugh with their crazy ideas and need to compete and conquer everything! They don't want to just mix the baking soda and vinegar and shoot the rocket off for the fun of it. They want to squeeze as much rocket fuel as they can into the rocket to make it go as high as possible with the loudest pop and the biggest spray of fuel left behind.
